Corn Hill’s Hidden Gem: the Adams Street Recreation Center

~ By Jacquelyn Grippe

The Adams Street Recreation Center sits in the heart of our small community, providing a variety of services and resources to both our residential neighborhood and the greater city of Rochester. Offering a large aquatics program, fitness center, and grab-and-go meals for school-age children, the Rec Center has a  lot to offer. The grounds further boast many attractive features, including a large playground, tennis courts, and community garden.

Like the rest of the world, the Rec Center has had to make major adjustments to cope with the challenges of COVID19. However, the Rec Center is slowly returning to normal, having expanded its programming for school-age children as well as its operating hours, now from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. during the school week. The weekend hours remain limited to aquatics classes. The fitness center has reopened with limited hours between noon and 5:45 p.m., closing briefly every hour for cleaning. There are plans to further extend both hours and programing as it becomes safe to do so. The City of Rochester will update the Rec Center website in the month of April, including a new registration system.  Be on the lookout for expanded Rec Center offerings.

Mike Georgetti took over as the Community Center  Manager in 2020 and hopes to continue to expand services and classes, inviting input and suggestions from Corn Hill residents. Mike can be reached at: [email protected]
