corn hill arts festival securityWe may still be remembering our winter storms, but this summer will be here before we know it. We’re celebrating the 51st Corn Hill Arts Festival on the weekend of July 13/14, and we need some neighbors to help keep the festival safe for all of our visitors.

We’re looking for volunteers to staff the Security team for this year’s arts festival. The security team works hand-in-hand with the Rochester Police Department and Monroe Ambulance to ensure that all of our visitors have a safe and enjoyable time.

Please note that our committee does not get directly involved with any dangerous situation. If anything dangerous takes place, our job is merely to identify the situation and report it to our on-site Rochester Police Department or ambulance team.

Each volunteer receives an ‘Official’ Corn Hill tee shirt, a festival poster and an invitation to the annual Corn Hill appreciation dinner in September.

We have openings for three different types of volunteers on the Security team.

Barricade Duty: Two-hour shifts, 8:00-10:00 a.m. or 4:00-6:00 p.m. Barricade volunteers man important intersections on the festival grounds to ensure that artists are driving in the correct direction and not entering streets the wrong way. This keeps the traffic flowing smoothly at startup and shutdown.

Roving Security: Four/five hour shifts, 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. or 1:00-6:00 p.m. Roving security team members walk the festival grounds, carrying a security team two-way radio. The roving security team members are the ‘eyes and ears’ on the ground. If an accident, illness or situation is observed, the roving security team notifies the command center via two-way radio, who will then notify the appropriate individuals to take care of the situation.

While roving, these security team members are able to shop, eat and listen to music, as long as they continue to be on the lookout for any situations.

Security Booth Duty: Four/five hour shifts, 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. or 1:00-6:00 p.m. Security booth team members are stationed in the festival security command center tent on Adams St. These individuals will sign out golf carts and radios to festival volunteers. Security booth team members also may be asked to drive golf carts to deliver goods or visitors when necessary.

Please consider volunteering for the 2018 Corn Hill Arts Festival Security Team. You’ll meet wonderful neighbors and will have a great time. If interested, please email [email protected], indicating the following:

  • Desired day (Saturday, Sunday or both)
