CHNA support of Dr. Alice Holloway School of EXCELLENCE

~ By Joanie Fraver

This past spring, some Corn Hill Neighbors Association board members began attending the Dr. Alice Holloway Young School of Excellence’s community engagement meetings. An outgrowth of that engagement resulted in a stronger partnership between CHNA and the school that is in the center of our community!

Through our Development Committee, funds were made available to purchase a large chest freezer for the school’s community food pantry. And a call went out to neighbors to donate nonperishable food items as well as school supplies at our summer gazebo concert series. We collected five large boxes and four grocery bags of food for the pantry as well as supplies for the school! THANK YOU to all those who answered the call. These items help support the families of the students as well as others in our community.

Nonperishable food items are welcome all year round. Wouldn’t it be terrific if the residents of Corn Hill resolved to keep the pantry stocked throughout the year? These items may be dropped off at the main school entrance; please call the school first at (585) 454-3525. In addition, there are volunteer opportunities available, especially in the area of tutoring. A vetting and training process is required. If you are able and willing to provide some time to this worthwhile endeavor, please call the school for more information.
