It’s that time of the year again that the Flower City Work Camp starts accepting referrals for free home repairs. The Flower City Work Camp is a ministry of area churches that will be in its 30th year. During the Spring recess of 2015 they will reach out, with over 700 youth and over 300 adult supervisors, to designated City locations and work for three days doing home repairs at no cost to the home owner. They are now accepting referrals due by November 1st. To best qualify the applicants must be of low to moderate income and have a owner occupied single family home. FCWC is looking for a variety of inside and outside work to keep them busy for three days. Typical work that is done includes: painting, minor plumbing and electrical repair, drywall, windows, doors, flooring, porch and garage repairs. They cannot do roof or gutter repairs that are over one story. Referrals will start to be evaluated in November/December, homes chosen in January/February and work to be completed during Spring Recess of April 2015.
Just give me a name, address and phone number and I will contact the person, explain the program and submit the referral. This program really helps some of our most neediest people and really gets results. Last year they worked on over 60 homes. Please help pass the word. If you would like more information please reply to this e-mail or contact me at Councilwoman Carla Palumbo’s office at 428-5982.
